The District 205 Foundation for Educational Excellence is looking for a few good men and women who would like to help make a difference for all students in District 205. What better way to give back to the community in which you are raising your children than to work with like-minded individuals to raise funds for innovative and supportive programs?

Board members serve a three-year term with renewal options and work with other dedicated volunteers in supporting educational programs, including the annual Thiems Grants and the Study Skills Program in place at all K-8 schools.

2018 Thiems Grants benefit all K-12 schools 

$98,559 in grants awarded
$35,598 elementary schools
$31,091 middle schools

$14,870 high school
$17,000 for multi-building staff to pilot virtual reality technologies in instruction

$80,000 to support the York High School Manufacturing Lab

The Foundation has provided  funding to purchase
two manual lathes and two manual mills for the new
Manufacturing Lab.
Students will be able to utilize the lab starting this year, and

beginning 2020, the lab will be a key component of the new manufacturing pathway offered at York.


$15,000 to assist struggling students outside of the classroom

Seven elementary schools are offering the Foundation's Study Skills Program this academic year.
Certified staff serve as program coordinators & teachers to help third through fifth grade students with specific academic content and executive function. Programs held before and after school, or during lunch/recess.

Foundation funds were used to purchase wi-fi hot spot devices to provide high speed internet access outside of school for identified students that do not have it. The Title I funding that provided these devices in the past has been significantly reduced, and the Foundation picked up the cost to ensure that students have the opportunity to fully engage in their education with this important resource.



York High School                 9 grants for $14,660

Middle Schools                    5 grants for  $11,532 
& REACH PTA          

Early Childhood                  11 grants for $28,135

& Elementary Schools

Twenty-five grants worth $54,327 awarded that impact all thirteen schools

The Foundation again provided $9,200 in funding that allowed elementary schools to conduct programs outside of the school day that helps identified students with academic assistance and organizational and study skills.

Executive Director, Lisa Fanelli, poses with Governor Rauner and fellow Host Committee Members for the 2015  National School Foundation Association Conference held in Chicago. Individuals from thirty-two states and Canada attended the  conference. "It was an honor to serve as a team member on the Welcome Committee, and the conference was so informative and rewarding", said Lisa, "There is important work being done by K-12 educational foundations on a national level, and the ability to learn from and collaborate with experts in education, individuals that value this work and those dedicated to it was a great opportunity."

York High School Alumni Association

York Community High School Alumni Association (YCHSAA) was created as a vehicle to foster communication and camaraderie among its alumni and to serve and support them, the  school and it’s students. Membership is  free, therefore, donations will be used to cover start-up costs, marketing and events.
