Close to $15,000 donated to Foundation for Duke Depot program

The District 205 Foundation received a very generous donation from the Elmhurst community group 100+ Women Who Care this February to support York's Duke Depot. This program exists to provide personal items, school supplies, and clothing for students that need assistance. These funds will also help York's Student Council to provide identified new  students with a back pack containing school supplies and book store gift  card. The number of students requiring support for these basic needs continues to grow, and this donation will provide help several years out so that students can come prepared and ready to engage in their education.

Future Ready Model Classrooms

The District # 205 Foundation for Educational Excellence unanimously approved to provide $50,000 to help fund the Future Ready Model Classroom project, a pilot program that created three future ready classrooms at the K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grade levels. The Foundation used proceeds earned throughout 2016/2017 to help fund the project. Foundation Chair Brian Bresnahan explains, “Our mission states that we are dedicated to innovations in education. Helping to move the District further along the spectrum of Future Ready Learning is definitely something we want to be involved with. I think the community will see the value in it and support us.”

Schools selected for the project were Fischer ,Lincolnand Bryan Middle School. In the spring of 2016, all three teachers, along with principals Jane Bailey (Fischer) and Jacquie Discipio(Bryan), as well as Foundation Chair Brian Bresnahan and Executive Director Lisa Fanelli, participated in Future Ready Model Classroom workshops, which were led by Wight and Company, the District’s architects.

Using the information gathered from this project along with additional research, four more classrooms will be piloted in 2019/20 at Sandburg, Churchville, Emerson and Jackson. Feedback will be gathered to inform the way classrooms are created in the new post referendum buildings as well as in the future across the district.
